And no, I am NOT ready for Fall to arrive--summer just got here!!  But, I don't have very many manly images from Mirtillamente, so I decided to choose this beautiful pumpkin image and get a head start on a fall masculine birthday card.   I love the bit of patterned papers just peeking out behind the image panel!

Using up some scraps

 I have a paper pack that I have had for a quite a while and it is getting down to some pretty small scraps left.  I had a fun time playing with them this past weekend.  Here's what I came up with so far.  I was able to use the larger pieces on the top card and used a bunch of smaller scraps for the second card.  Based on the sketch I decided to use, I was able to use tiny scraps to create the illusion of larger pieces.  You can see that at the very bottom of the picture and can see how they hide behind the main panel in the finished first card.  I still have all those scraps left in the top right corner, but I have an idea for some of them.

In the photo below you can see my scrapped layers--you can't even tell!  This card with all the colors is perfect for a little boy birthday we celebrated over the weekend.  Can you tell he was turning 2??  I also pulled the arrow from my bits and pieces stash.  And the fun enamel circles I have had for a long time!

Here is the sentiment I created for the inside.  As are all two-year-old boys, he is definitely full of shenanigans!

The second card made with the larger scrap pieces, I turned into a Father's Day card for my husband.

All I needed to do was add a little pirate, stamp the sentiment and add some enamel dots.  Using up scraps and supplies I have had for a long time is one of my favorite things to do in card making!

A Father's Always There

Happy Friday!!!  It's time for a new challenge from the Cut It Up Challenge Blog.  This week, the challenge is: Masculine

Here is my card for your inspiration:

This theme is perfect for this time of year with Father's Day just around the corner (or in a couple of days, in fact).  This is the card I created for my father for Father's Day.  An easy layout made easier by these beautiful papers.  For a little fun, I made this a gatefold card.  For a little extra fun, I stamped a sand dollar image in a light turquoise ink behind the sentiment.  It's a bit hard to see in the photo, but it adds just enough in real life.

Congrats

 Two young ladies from our church are graduating from high school this year.  We had a small celebration for them at church this morning.  These are the cards I created for them.  They are almost identical except the pattern on the patterned paper.  I die cut the patterned paper with a stitched rectangle die.  Then I die cut several layers of the hat and adhered them all together to get some added dimension.  I adhered the hats to vellum circles to help them stand out from the background.  I die cut "congrats" and some small stars out of gold shimmer card stock.

The black and white patterned paper is so gorgeous.  The black lines are raised and have a bit of shimmer and shine to them that looks amazing in real life!  You can see a bit of it in the photo below as well as the dimension on the hat.

This is the picture of the second card.  It is almost identical to the first except the pattern on the patterned paper is different.

Father's Day

 Hello, everyone!  It's time for a new challenge from the Creative Moments Challenge blog.  The theme is: Men and Boys--Let's see those masculine makes!!  I am using an image from our fabulous sponsor: Mirtillamente.

 Here is my card:

I created a father's day card for my Father-in-law using this yummy cheeseburger and fries image.  I used a few things from my bits and pieces stash--namely all the red stars.  The stars inspired me to use a star embossing folder for the background.  And I was able to use some scraps of red patterned paper that I have had for 20+ years!!  For the bubbles rising out of the soda, I added some glossy accents to the image to give it a realistic look.  You can see the shine in the photo below:

I finished off the inside with a sentiment and then added the remaining three stars from my bits and pieces stash and a strip of red card stock that I had trimmed off a previous card and it had just been sitting on my desk.  I LOVE using things up!!  And even better when you can create a fabulous card with those things!

Wonderful

Last week I made a card (you can see it here) and had a bunch of lovely pieces left over.  I figured a second card was practically made; I just needed to combine the pieces together.  The kraft label die cut and the strip of floral paper were left overs from the other card and I still had the purple card stock out and the flower die set, and this is how it came together:

 I stamped the smaller part of the sentiment first and then stamped the "wonderful" using my mini MISTI.  After stamping it on the kraft label, I adhered the flower die cut in place and since it was still in my MISTI, I was able to stamp the sentiment again on TOP of the flower.  It creates a seamless look and  really fun (easy) technique!  I finished everything off with a sheer, sparkly organza ribbon and bow and a few clear rhinestones to add a little bit more sparkle.

Happy June 1st!!  It's time for a new challenge on the Critter Crazy Challenge blog!  As always, it is a month long challenge: Anything Goes as long as you feature a creature.  Here is my card for your inspiration:

This card was inspired by an Art Festival I went to with my friend last weekend.  There was a booth that had a whole bunch of art work that involved flamingos dressed up in various ways with attitudes to go along with them.  My friend mentioned that they reminded her of cards that I might make and I remembered that I did indeed have a flamingo stamp set that I had never used.  So after we came home, I went looking for the set and this card was born!  I have a paper pack that I am trying to use up--it's pretty much just little scraps and pieces.  I made the piece down the side using a bunch of these scraps.  I cut a little strip of gold shimmer card stock to join the scrap piece to the main panel.  Then I die cut a bow and a bunch of stars out of the same card stock.

Here I am three challenges in a row with a sympathy card!  Not fun at all, but I have had a need for all three of them  I used several brand new dies on this one along with a very old sentiment and some pretty, soft, floral papers.  For a bit of sparkle, I added some clear rhinestones to the flower panel and also as "trails" for the butterflies.

I got a quick chance to play around just for fun recently as I am still trying to "clean" off my desk.  And "cleaning" involves having to make things with the bits and pieces that are lying around on the desk.  This image was die cut from a sample commercial Christmas card (someone had given me a whole stack of these samples a year or so ago).  The embossing is already part of the image, making it super easy to create a quick card!  I die cut the panel with a stitched rectangle die and matted it on gold shimmer card stock before adding it to a red card base.  I then stamped the sentiment on a vellum banner and adhered it to the card, adding a little bow die cut from the gold shimmer card stock.

This is the Mother's Day card for my mom  .I was able to use up a bunch of patterned paper scraps from one of my favorite packs.  I'm down to some pretty small scraps now; I'll have to work on creating some fun strip backgrounds.  For the inside I stamped a small sentiment and then stamped a flower and leaf directly onto the card base using some soft inks.

With Sympathy

Here is my card for your inspiration:

This is the second sympathy card I have been in need of within the last month.  Not fun, but necessary sometimes.  I started off with a brand new embossing folder for the background.  I always forget about using these, but they are so perfect for adding subtle texture and elegance.  I die cut a patterned paper focal piece and added some beautiful, die cut roses, leaves and flourishes before finishing it off with a simple stamped sentiment.  I used a gray ink as I thought black might be too harsh for the softness of the rest of the card.

With Sympathy

 Happy Friday!!!  It's time for a new challenge from the Cut It Up Challenge Blog.  This week, the challenge is: So Sorry

Here is my card for your inspiration:

The sister of one of the elderly ladies at our church passed away recently, so a sympathy card was in order--perfect timing with this challenge!  Sympathy cards are always a bit of challenge for me.  I want to keep them rather simple, but elegant and tasteful at the same time.  I started out by stamping my card panel with a crocheted background stamp with white craft ink.  I had to stamp it multiple times and it is still hard to see since the card stock is such a light color, but it does give a very subtle texture to the background; you can see it a bit in the picture below.

Then I die cut and stamped the images.  Layering stamps are sooooo gorgeous, but also such a challenge for me.  I struggle with getting them lined up correctly, although I think I did a fairly good job with this set this time.  I also die cut and stamped the sentiment and the added everything to the card, finishing by popping the sentiment up with foam tape and adding some peach colored pearls that I have had in my stash forever!

Happy May 1st!!  It's time for a new challenge on the Critter Crazy Challenge blog!  As always, it is a month long challenge: Anything Goes as long as you feature a creature.  Here is my card for your inspiration:

This inspiration for this card came from the paw print cover plate.  I have a small stack on my desk of items I haven't used yet (or haven't used very much).  I was looking through the stack and came across the die and a plan started to form.  I really like this sketch from Atlantic Hearts Challenge (unfortunately the challenge expired before I could add the card) and remembered I had a stamp set with a pup that would work well with the sketch.  I also had a bit of red patterned paper on my desk that was already the perfect width for one of the banners so red became the color scheme.  I stamped, colored and fussy cut out the pup and found another scrap of a coordinating red paper to use for the second banner.  The sentiment was from the same set and I added a little heart that was left over from cutting the background and I colored it with a red marker.  

I don't like to throw anything away that might have a purpose.  Several years ago, I created some invitations to a baby shower and had a couple left over.  They were too cute to throw away so I have been holding on to them.  Last month, we had a baby shower for a new baby boy at our church and I ended up cutting off the front panels of a couple of the invitations to use as cards for this sweet little baby and his mom.  So, I still had the back panels with the information for the other baby shower.  So, I just flipped it over and die cut my cover panel from the "clean" side.  Once adhered to the card front, no one will ever know!

I also love to use my little scraps of white card stock.  They are perfect for small sentiment panels and when an image is going to be fussy cut (or die cut) out.  As you can see below, I used some of these scraps for this card.
